What Happens When Tires are Overinflated?

Over-inflation of tires causes an imbalance in the vehicle. When tires ride higher, they do not grip the road properly reducing vehicle performance and compromising safety parameters. Over-inflation builds forces inside the tire that can lead to catastrophic tire failure which, in turn, can cause devastating accidents.

Over-inflation of automobile tires causes the tire to crown in the middle. Pattern wear increases on the center of the tire as that are the only section contacting the road surface. Along with over-inflation comes the increased temperatures inside the tire. The increased temperatures balloon the tire even more while you drive down the road. High temperatures inside the tire lead to the weakening of the wedge between layers of rubber causing the tire to separate and fail.
