What Do Car Warranties Cover?

If you are in the market for a new vehicle or a newer used vehicle, you've probably noticed that these vehicles come with at least two different types of warranties. Vehicles often have a powertrain warranty and/or a bumper-to-bumper warranty. So, what is the difference?

A bumper-to-bumper warranty is a type of warranty that covers almost all of the working parts of a vehicle. For example, a bumper-to-bumper warranty will cover the engine, transmission, electrical system, cooling system, power windows, etc. Belts, hoses, and maintenance items are not covered. A powertrain warranty is more limited. It will cover the engine, transmission, and drivetrain. Maintenance items will not be covered. Powertrain warranties usually last for a longer period than bumper-to-bumper warranties.
